SEO rank tracking from a French mobile IP

A rank tracker that queries Google from a datacenter gets a SERP that is not the one your customers see. A French mobile IP brings you closer to what a real mobile user gets.

The problem with SERPs seen from a server

Google adapts its results to several signals: the location of the IP address, the device, history and language. When you query from a datacenter IP in Germany or the United States, you are not observing the page a user in Lyon sees on their phone. Worse: beyond a certain volume, Google returns a verification page and your tool reports false positions, or none at all.

Going through a French mobile address solves both problems at once: you query from a connection that resembles your users, and automated volume is far less suspicious than traffic from a server range.

What you can track

  • Positions on the keywords of your French market, query by query.
  • Presence and content of rich snippets, local packs and related results.
  • How competitors move in the same SERP, on the same queries.
  • Differences between a desktop query and a mobile query.
  • Quality control of your own pages as they are really served.

Setting it up with your own tool

A minimal Python script sends each keyword through the proxy with a mobile user agent and a fr-FR language header, then waits four seconds between calls so the target is never hammered. With an off-the-shelf tool, simply enter the host, the port and the credentials in the proxy section: any serious rank tracker accepts HTTP or SOCKS5.

Precautions to take

  1. Space out requests. Four to ten seconds between queries is more than enough for rank tracking. Hammering a target does not produce better data, only blocks.
  2. Stay within tracking volumes. Rank tracking is legitimate; click generation and ranking manipulation are not, and they break the Google terms of use.
  3. One IP per workstation. Do not share the same rotation between a rank tracker and a browser: your volume accounting becomes unreadable.
  4. Document your readings. Keep the time, the egress IP and the simulated device: that is what lets you explain a sudden position change.

What it costs

Daily tracking of 200 to 500 keywords fits comfortably in the monthly plan at $14.99 with 10 GB, along with room for several tools. Agencies tracking dozens of sites will prefer the agency plans and their multi-line pool.

Questions fréquentes

Does Google show me a different SERP from a mobile IP?

Yes. A datacenter IP often triggers degraded results, CAPTCHAs or different versions. A French mobile IP gives you the SERP as served to French mobile users, including the personalisation tied to the location of the IP.

Can I check SERPs across several French cities?

Fine-grained geolocation of a mobile IP is less precise than a fixed line: carriers usually announce a regional or national level. For city-by-city tracking you need a multi-region pool, which we offer on the agency plan.

Is this allowed by Google?

Reading a SERP is not forbidden; automating massive query volumes is, under the terms of use. Stay on reasonable volumes, space requests out, and never use this kind of collection to manipulate positions or generate artificial clicks.

What volume for daily tracking of 500 keywords?

Allow 50 to 120 KB per results page: 500 keywords daily is roughly 2 to 4 GB per month, which fits the $14.99 monthly plan with 10 GB and room to spare.
